BYOC Classic Compressor (Ross Clone)

Description

I just had to test what happens when you capture a compressor! So here is my SQUEEEZA, a BYOC clone of the Ross Compressor pedal, wich again is closely related to the MXR Dynacomp. My theory was that a simple compressor, with preset values for attack and release CAN be captured and modeled. I think I was sort of right, sort of wrong. So what you can hear is definately that there is compression going on. But when I tested it back to back with the real pedal, there was some obvious differences. First of all, the NAM model is not nearly as grabby in the attack as the pedal. It seems it doesn't capture the release that well either. BUT I think the sound in itself is good, AND I think there is potential here if you mess with the input and output in NAM. There are two versions: One with sustain at 2, one at 6. Both captures where done with level at eight. I did not normalize the files before training, and they peaked at around -12 (sus2) and -10 (sus6), as I wanted to hear what actually happens with the level at higher settings, not only the compression. I suggest trying them out without normalisation in the plugin, as they seem to run to hot into the amp model with normalisation on, so that judging what goes on with the comprssion model is harder that way. It seems to me that making NAM models of compressors are doable, but not with the same success as drive pedals and amps. Maybe we would need a special training file for this purpose, that makes it easier to capture the attack and release? I will probably make a full set of this pedal, but I'd like to see if I get some feedback and suggestions first. Oh, almost forgot: They are trained at 200 epochs, ESR at 0,03 - 0,04, so not that great, but this IS just a test. Cheers!
