Fender Princeton Recording Amp

Description

This is my new set of the Fender Princeton Recording Amp. I wanted to do this amp again from scratch, but my loadbox is broken at the moment. However, it is so long since I trained the old version, so I figured I'd try to train my old output files at ToneZone to see what happened. And yeah! It was a large improvement! So here it is again, but this time, both with standard and lite profiles, and input calibration! It must be said that the Fender Princeton Recording Amp is not a «real» Princeton. The PRA supposedly has the AB763 circuit in it, which is the most typical Blackface era circuit, but the Princeton Reverbs from that period had the AA1164 or AB127 circuit in them. In both cases, the sound is still very similar. Also, the Princetons had an output of about 12 to 15 watts. The PRA originally has 20 watts. Mine had to get a new output transformer, and spare parts for this amp was NOT easy to get, so it actually has a Peavey output transformer in it, and puts out 25 watts, I was told by the tech. So this amp is maybe more like a Deluxe reverb. There are four EQ settings inthis set: NTR is neutral, with bass at 3, treble at 3,5. AFV is «all five» - bass and treble at 5. BAL is balanced – bass at 4, treble at 6. BRT is bright – bass at 5, treble 8. There are 5 drive setting: Clean is volume at 3 EoB is volume at 4 Crunch 1 is volume at 5 Crunch 2 volume at 7 Drive is volume dimed to 10. How this translates to your guitar might vary. But there should be great tones to be found in this set for anything from a bright single coiled tele, to a fat Les Paul with 'buckers. You can use input calibration with these, which is reamped at 12 dBu. I do prefer to take the input down with 6 dB, though, as I think 12 dBu is to hot. But find your own way! As for a cab solution, I will give no recommendation for IRs. You can use them if you want, of course, but I have moved on from IRs, and now use only the Quantum Speaker from Neutron Audio. What I use for this amp, is the Eminence Gold that Neutron released a while back, taken from the cab of their excellent Twin Amp for NAM. Do yourself a favour, and check it out! You can also check out my stock and modded SD-1 pedal, which is a great companion for this amp: https://tonehunt.org/Raksha/0e1ed38c-8748-4e36-a392-0dcddbc92f91
