While you can find chip test audio clips and videos for the Tube Screamer on the web, it's not always easy to hear the difference between the chips. By modeling a Tube Screamer at each chip change, the idea is to allow you to test the different chips with your own setup. So we have a set of models from my Maxon OD-9 pedal with different chips trained on Standard mode. I have selected several chips that give good results in the Tube Screamer. The first are the JRC4558D (that of the OD-9) and RC4558P. Both of these chips were initially used in the original TS808s and TS9s. Other chips such as the LF353N, TL072CN and OPA2134PA have also been included, although they were never used in the Tube Screamer. A brief description of the chips: -JRC4558D: nice midrange, smooth top end. -RC4558P: good midrange with more high end grit. -LF353N: similar tone to the JRC4558D and RC4558P with less midrange, good harmonics. -TL072CN: more balanced sound, clarity, nice harmonics, low noise. -OPA2134PA: flatter EQ, rich and detailed sound, nice harmonics, low noise. For these captures, the Drive has been set to 7 (2 o'clock), the Tone to 5 (12 o'clock) and the Level to 10 (Max).
