Fender Princeton Recording Amp
Description
Here is a set of profiles from my Fender Princeton Recording Amp. Now, what is that, you say? Well this amp is something Fender did around 2008. It's core is the evergreen 60's Princeton circuit, all the way through (so they say...), but in addition, there is a studio style rack with an overdrive, and a compressor. AND there even is an attenuator! Well none of these additions are brought into this set. The OD and comp sounds meh for one thing. And for the attenuator, I had it disabled by a tech, as it was known to be just trouble, and who would need that on a Princeton, anyway? So this is just the pure Princeton curcuit. Or is it more? Yes, there is more: I bought this amp for about 1/10 of the price from an inscurance company, because it had been damaged by water. Well, it needed a couple new 6v6 tubes, and a new output transformer. The trouble was just that spare parts for this amp was not readily availiable when I needed it. So the tech put in a Peavey transformer that makes the output of this amp to be about 25 watts. Around the double of the original PR! (The stock PRA is 20W.). So this amps output is really more like a Deluxe Reverb, and then some. No wonder it's hot... Onto this set: The sound MIGHT be a little bit different from an original or reissue PR, but stilll... I have tried to find some tone settings that are not to far apart, but will work with different guitars, different IRs, different pickups, and so on. The tone settings denote like this: NTR: neutral – treble 3,5 – bass 3 – to have an option that is not scooped at all. AFV: All Five! - Treble 5 – Bass 5 – That's where we start out, right? Add or detract T, B and M yourself! BAL: Balanced – Treble 6 – Bass 4 – This is how I like it myself. BRT: Bright – Treble 8 – Bass 5 Yes it's bright, but still full! All these tonal options have been captured with volume at 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 10. To me, it was important to capture that range from clean through EoB and crunch to overdrive. Volume at 2 should be clean with any guitar, at 5 we should be at overdrive with most guitars, except teles with vintage pickups. And then there is volume at 7 and 10. It should make this Princeton scream whatever guitar and pickup you have! All these captures are DI captures. I most often use Two-notes Wall of Sound for cabs, and there are a lot of options that will fit this amp. I don't like the typical Princeton 10 inch models myself, much prefering the Jeff Stinco Deluxe Reverb Cab, and for something dark, the Vibro Utah, both from WoS. Anyway: The character of the overdriven profiles are largely different depending on the cab you choose, just sayin... 12, 1 dBu Have Fun!
